Centre of Excellence for Surgical Education and Innovation
The Centre of Excellence for Surgical Education and Innovation
is the first Centre of its kind in Canada to be accredited by the
American College of Surgeons and is committed to achieving
excellence in medical education, research related to educational
technology and improving the delivery of health care. With the
recent expansion, the Centre is open for use to 26,000 medical
students, residents, doctors, nurses and other health care
professionals every year. A total of 42 specialized training
programs are delivered, and 20 research projects are currently
underway. The Centre’s vision includes the development
of telemedicine and robotics as ways of delivering medical care to
patients in remote areas, and to provide a virtual hospital setting
in which teams of doctors and other medical staff can practice and
retain their skills, improving patient safety results.
