The Skin Care Centre at VGH has a comprehensive and aggressive program aimed at exploring all aspects of skin cancer and is Canada’s leading skin cancer research group, encompassing both clinical and basic research. Building on this platform of expertise, the Centre is also embarking on a visionary program in photomedicine, the branch of medicine that deals wit the beneficial and harmful effects of light on the human body. This program will aim to fully understand the potentially harmful effects of light in medicine and ways to prevent further damage, and to determine ways by which we can harness the healing energy of light to treat diseases of the skin and other organs. The goal is to become a leading centre of excellence for clinical and investigative photomedicine in North America.
